American Dream Then, Now
80Some Things that have not completely changed over the years
Passed down from generation to generation has been a love and respect for one's land, country, and taking good care of one's property and environmental issues kept up on. Such as recycling, keeping our environment free of liter, and doing the best we can to care for the needs of out wildlife animals too. Keeping up on the repairs of on's home so that perhaps a future generation may inherit a place that may not put them into dept with upkeep just to live in it. We the internet sure, but have kept the family tree going on ancestry.com. We still celebrate the same old holidays as always, and care for our sick in hospitals and doctors offices. We still have bars and what was once called a saloon is now a strip club. We still explore our lands and different cultures or ways of life. We still fight and war over religions and politics. We all still long for a time of peace and prosperity here. Not much at all has changed in some ways today, except for the more obvious things we are all getting out of bankruptcy now as a country when our Great-Great Grandparents had the Great Depression. We have the Great many things remain the very same for us today ours called a recession as they have always been before, here they are all back again for us today. It's as if we have just been handed over the world, from our Great-Great Grandparents themselves today. We are the first of generations in a many long years to be known to never be able to do as well as what our Fathers had done before us, be it either financially or just simply having the good old traditional American family still. It all sounds so hopeless, and it would be if our dear old Grandparents and parents had not of thought of this all ahead of time for us and worked out a bit of a support systems to see us through just barely these very tough days. So that we may have that opportunity to advance and grow more as they had the chance to do already, they want the very same for there beloved children now today too. So, even though many twist turns and struggles it all will still remain the same at least.
Some advancements even changes to ideas that were around many years ago too
Although our Great-Great Grandparents never lived to see it, they did talk of days things would be more advanced. Today we have those very things that they could only imagine in those times, computers, cars run without gas, wind and solar energy's, recycle plants, organic foods, unemployment assistance and food banks. Even more affordable or HUDD housing programs, grants that help all go to higher education and jobs, even the talk of a Universal healthcare system. Plus our very first ever African American President of the United States of America. These I am pretty sure our forefathers may have all talked about a bit, but most likely knew that they would never get to see them in there lifetimes. So, we can just imagine that the American dream for some has changed at least somewhat anyway. From those times into today's, I would say there has been a vast improvement in some areas yet still a vast lacking in others. In which we may see some change in yet in our lifetimes still.
What we can see from this changing in our American life and dreams too
Starting very young more people taught about there surroundings and farm and having a computer stetting learning environment readying them for important and much needed jobs in the future. With the farm experiences they are also more opened up to the world and perhaps will care for and respect there planet more because of this. There is much hope with our future with children being raised in these ways. We can also see that the main strengths and American spirit is holding true to many past beliefs that have proven to lead to great new inventions for today and our futures. Such as the electric cars, if an old environmentalist had not of been worried enough about the air emissions we may never of had this new car that needs no gas. Also,if another elder thinking had not of invented our computer first we may never have these great new class rooms. Our elders also thought of wind energy first with the wind mills long ago, we used this idea and added onto it but without the original we may never have gotten to it. Of course all credit goes to our wonderful elders, when having a multi generational home if they were not here at all in the first. Tell me just how that would work out? So, in conclusion I find that we have come a long way but it is indeed to the most part the loveĀ of our forefathers that we have done so. This out of great respect and thankfulness for it all, may be just the very same reason's that we do choose to keep some of those old original American dreams of the past going still today.
How our original homes were built here
How are homes are built today
How we used to travel or just get around at all
Today we are even ridding ourselves of gas usage, with all electric cars!!
The way of living today to save money and make ends meat
The first settlers of our lands
The changes of our weather today may one day force a big transfer of us all to other lands, likely much more devastating and big group of folks than the Oregon
Wind & Solar Energy should help us not harm the environment any further in the hopes that Mother Earth will heal once again as she has done before in the past
The way many children used to live everyday life
Ways of learning today and into the future

Hi Fluffy - Good thoughts, but I have some to add. One thing is we are not getting out of debt, but only incurring more debt by printing worthless money. We are not able to save because of inflation and the cost of living. The rate of unemployment is so high that hopelessness and despair fill many Americans. The innovations to make a better future do not happen when the country and people behave wastefully and without regard to the environment and each other. At least citizens from our past had pride in their work and their name. They may not have imagined what life would look like today with computers and an African American president, but we must start making positive changes for our future. (HUGS) Debby
Fluffy, well written, and I like the way you laid this out. You are a good writer, and stir thinking and emotions...this is good. Write on, write on...
The future will be good, it just takes time to get past economic down turns. The present is good actually, and people who worry about the debt 24/7 probably worry too much about money. What about we stop playing world empire and make more jobs here. Stop being so stingy about resources, and start sharing more of the wealth with all Americans. This may seem highly socialistic for some, but even the richest Americans wanted to they could help contribute to a society where everyone who wants a house and job could have one.
There is a vested interest in not sharing a bit more, but I am not going to worry about it too much. Those who venerate money, a man made thing, will never have much true happiness in life. You need money to pay your bills, but money can never buy beauty of nature, true talent, or innovation. There will always be dreamers and innovators who contribute to society without worrying about those who "do not work as hard as them". Anyone who has time to sit on the computer write such comments is not very busy working anyway.
Your article is excellent. We do owe a debt to the Americans who came before us. And we have an obligation to those who will come after us. For both reasons I lament the current narcissistic nihilism that has taken hold in our culture. By your words on this page, it looks as though you have escaped it. Bravo! Carry on.
Cool Hub - I have become really into the green movement lately, it is amazing to me how much the world has changed since I was a kid - If we don't wake up and slow down a bit I think we will leave our children with a HUGE MESS of a country, but I do have faith that America will survive & people will unite and go back to doing things the old way or maybe start doing things in a better way.
Fluffs: I have seen some comments about your paragraphs etc.. go to my beautiful friend marcoujor right here on hubs. She has a much softer approach that you will appreciate more! Trust me. I will tell her about you as well. You will just love her!
I love the old America more. I love now the way I grew up. It was simple, less threatening, more fun, more inspiring than now. I think wow I would have loved to live in in the 1800's, the roaring 20's, 30's, 40's and fifties as an adult. Today I get frustrated with society and all the financial problems. Sigh!!!!
Hello Fuffly77 ~ revisiting this hub and reading my remarks you may think that I'm not too hopeful for the future of America. What I would like to see for the future investment of a better day comes from the next generation. Will they take on the mantle, and what legacy will we pass to them? Do they have the wisdom and education to solve the problems of the present day and the future?
I've got all questions and no answers because I can't foretell the future and don't know enough about the younger generations to understand their core beliefs and desires for America. We can only try to provide a solid foundation for them to stand upon and move forward. Blessings, Debby

Good hub.
I would suggest you break it into more paragraphs. A new paragraph comes when the subject changes. Makes it a lot easier to read.
Thanks for sharing.
